Katharina Schmidt PhD

RESEARCHER

Dr. Katharina Schmidt obtained her Bachelor degree in Food- and Biotechnology from the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (BOKU) in Vienna, as well as the individually designed Master’s degree in Nanobioscience in 2021. In this time, she performed several internships, including at the Chiang Mai University in Thailand and the VUB in Belgium. In 2022, she started her PhD studies under the supervision of Dr. Jakub Dostalek at the Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT), from where she switched to DPU in 2023 until her graduation in March 2025. Katharina develops ultrasensitive plasmonic biosensors for nucleic acid and protein biomarkers relevant in medical diagnosis with the focus on single-molecule observations. Since 2025 she is part of the core team at the LiST Laboratory and the PiSENS as postdoctoral researcher.
