Dr. Juan Allegretto from the Laboratory for Life Sciences Technology - LiST-, in collaboration with the Soft Matter Laboratory and QNano Laboratory from Argentina, has published a study titled "Design, synthesis and characterization of hierarchical porous stacked thin films based on MOFs and ordered mesoporous oxides" in The Journal of Materials Chemistry A - RSC.
The research explores the integration of Si- and Ti-based highly ordered mesoporous oxides and Zr- and Zn-based Metal-Organic Frameworks (UiO-66 and ZIF-8 MOFs) with different refractive indexes. The study investigates the impact of synthesis procedures on the porosity, crystalline structure, and morphology of bilayers, proposing paths for the integration of multilayers as 1D-PCs with enhanced selectivity. This work marks a significant advancement in sensor assembly using porous metal oxides and Metal-Organic Frameworks thin films.
